כאשר המילה מסתיימת באות ie, נוריד את האותיות, נחליף אותן לאות [[Y]] ונוסיף <math>ing</math>. למשל :

# <math>die \rightarrow d_{\color{blue} ie \rightarrow y+ing} \rightarrow d{\color{blue}ying}</math>

לעולם לא נכפיל מילים שמסתיימות באותיות '''W''','''X''','''Y''':

# <math>box \rightarrow box{\color{green}ing} </math>

# <math>blow \rightarrow blow{\color{green}ing} </math>
